    EGASYS - Basic


    A New Direction


    Sometimes, You Just Have To Uncomplicate Things


    In a recent discussion with a friend about EGASYS, it became clear that it had gotten too overburdened. After much hasty trimming of fat, I was left with a much leaner, more adaptable core rulebook for the system. Expansion books are planned and in progress to introduce more advanced concepts such as crafting, magic systems, a full powers system, and so forth.

    Using only the core basic rulebook, however, here we have a rakish human noble, arrogant and swaggering. Agile, witty, impatient, and not very bright, but skilled with a dueling rapier; able to hold their own in the necessary skills of a court noble. The necessary social status and some leather clothing doubling as armour round things out.

    Devblog - Classic Fantasy - Armour


    To address armour, we must first address weapons; and to address weapons, we must first know what kind of armour they will be used against. Historically, rather than being circular, this development was cyclical. Weapons would be developed that worked well against a given armour type, and then armour would be developed that worked well against the given weapons, and then the process would repeat.

    Not Dead - What's Happening


    Folks, I started this blog without a backlog already in place. I've since come to learn that a backlog is crucial. So, until I've built up a sizable backlog of posts, posting will move to once per week.

    Once the backlog is established, posting will move to twice per week, and then, if that proves sustainable, I may try for three times per week.

    In the meantime, the next post will address armour (and, by implication, weapons) in classic fantasy.

No post today


I've caught a bug of some sort, and consequently any post I make stands a good chance of being rambling and confusing, which is contrary to the purpose of this blog.

Yes, I know it's ironic to post a whole post to say I won't post. Especially when I seem coherent. However, my ability to be eloquent is not really related to my ability to be cogent and considered.

I apologize to anyone who was looking forward to a post today.

    What is a "Tabletop Role-Playing Game?"

    A brief history, first, for those just tuning in to tabletop role-playing games. Also be aware that I was not present during these events, and that my knowledge of the subject started in very early 200X, and a country away, from 1960s and 1970s Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, United States. For our European readers, that would be the city of "Lake Geneva" in US-Wisconsin, as distinct from the "Lake Geneva" on the border between France and Switzerland, alphabetically. So my knowledge of events should not be taken as definitive, but rather, as I understand it.

    Classic Fantasy

    The following character was created entirely through rolls on the Noble career, as an example of the career system. Career systems of this type are also known as "Lifepath" systems, and are featured in some prominent RPGs. Every six months, the character gains some benefit from their career, such as skills, abilities, rank, etc.. In this case, I chose to roll both for what the character was doing, as well as for what they learned and if an event occurred. Then, I interpreted the results.

    Elven Dual, Classic Fantasy


    The two Elven warriors circle each other. Each with sword and shield; mail hauberk and thick cloth underlayer, they appear mirror images, down to the focused fury on their faces. Suddenly, one delivers a deft blow; an equally deft turn of a shield turns it aside. Back and forth they clash; one would gain initiative, pressing the attack, then lose it to the other, before the cycle would begin anew. A few blows hit, but are turned aside by chain links. This evenly matched, neither attempts a chancy blow at the relatively exposed legs or hands.
