    Elven Dual, Classic Fantasy

The two Elven warriors circle each other. Each with sword and shield; mail hauberk and thick cloth underlayer, they appear mirror images, down to the focused fury on their faces. Suddenly, one delivers a deft blow; an equally deft turn of a shield turns it aside. Back and forth they clash; one would gain initiative, pressing the attack, then lose it to the other, before the cycle would begin anew. A few blows hit, but are turned aside by chain links. This evenly matched, neither attempts a chancy blow at the relatively exposed legs or hands.

Finally, a telling blow; the tip of a sword shatters chain links to cut the foe beneath. Knowing the foe has nothing to lose now, the victorious Elf focuses only on turning aside the last assault of the dying warrior. And with a last flick of the shield, he dismisses the desperate, dying attack, and the fight is finished as his foe falls.

------------

This was one of three test fights I ran last night within the EGASYS framework, using the same character sheet for both combatants. This was the second fight of the night; in the third fight, I added in fatigue and wound penalties. The second fight was unusually long; the first and third fights were over within about four rounds, after one or the other character failed a survival roll against their wounds. In the first fight, both received potentially lethal blows, but one made survival rolls long enough to be carried back to the medical tent.
